Route Details

The routing of route 178

Route 178 was a regular route that served the Lincoln Fields and Centrepointe areas. Mainly operated in peak periods in both directions, with limited trips in the mid-day and evening and no weekend service. Morning peak period trips that continued to downtown from Baseline Station become Route 91 at Baseline Station.

History

August 29th, 1999

  • Will be extended to Lincoln Fields Station on all trips with peak period trips extending to and from downtown.
  • Peak period trips serve the Transitway platform at Lincoln Fields while off-peak period trips serve the local platform.

June 27th, 2004

  • No Saturday service after 7 PM and no Sunday service before 9 AM. This was due to major budget cuts in the city’s operating budget.

June 26th, 2005

  • Service before 6:30 AM, Monday to Friday is reinstated.

June 24th, 2007

  • Will be cancelled on Sundays. Alternative service will be available on Woodroffe, Baseline or at Baseline Station.

September 6th, 2009

  • Route no longer extends to downtown during peak periods. Instead, AM peak period trips that start at Lincoln Fields will end at Baseline station (after looping Centrepointe) and continue as Route 95.

September 4th, 2011

  • Route was reduced to operate in peak periods in both directions, with limited trips in the mid-day and evening.
  • Weekend service will be cancelled.
  • Alternative service options include Route 118 on Baseline, Routes 156 and 172 on Woodroffe, and many routes at Baseline Station.
  • The morning peak period trips that continue to downtown from Baseline Station as Route 95 will be unchanged.

January 5th, 2014

  • Will be adjusted a few minutes earlier on the first trip, for improved connections at Baseline Station.

June 28th, 2015

  • Morning peak period trips that continue from Baseline Station to downtown become Route 91 instead of Route 95 and will end at Laurier Station instead of Hurdman.

April 23rd, 2017

  • Route is renumbered to local Route 84 in preparations for the launch of the O-Train Confederation Line in 2018.
