Parkinson Coach Lines was a family business founded in 1946 in Snelgrove, Ontario by Robert (Bob) Parkinson. They started out operating school services for the Chinguacousy school board in 1947, and soon after started operating the first transit services for Brampton during that time.
The company was acquired by Cliff Tracy in 1953 (who moved operations north to start Owen Sound Bus Lines) and later the Murray brothers; another family with generations in the bus and coach business, going back to 1922. The company hasn't strayed far from their roots in Brampton, Ontario and started running the predecessor to Brampton Transit in the mid-1960s. They further expanded into school buses in 1958 and coach tours in the 1976.[1]
On September 19th 2011, it was announced that the school bus assets of Parkinson Coach Lines had been sold to new startup Switzer-Carty Transportation.
In December 2020, the company announced it would be ending its remaining coach operations.
In 2016, the City of Brampton named a local street "Robert Parkinson Drive" after the company's founder.[2] In 2017, Brampton Transit introduced a new route name after the founder, the 27 Robert Parkinson.
