Rockland Coaches (also known as The Red and Tan Lines) was a commuter coach company owned by Coach USA based in Westwood, New Jersey, that operates commuter bus service between New York City and points in Bergen County, New Jersey and Rockland County, New York, and provided local bus service in both locales north of Route 46.[1]
History
- Established in 1932.
- Acquired Nyack DeLuxe Coach Corporation in 1935 and was merged into Rockland Coaches in 1941.
- Acquired Spring Valley Motor Coach Company in 1935.
- Hill Bus Company was merged into Rockland Coaches on January 1, 1966.
- Acquired by Coach USA in the late 1990's.
- In early 2022, Coach USA announced that Rockland Coaches would be closing its doors after almost 90 years. Its buses were removed from the lot by January 27, 2022, moving their operations to Community Coach, but still maintaining USDOT operating authority under the Rockland Coaches number of 156149. In September 2022, New Jersey Transit began using the Rockland Coaches garage to ease overcrowding at Oradell Garage, eventually buying the property outright. Several Oradell-based routes and 100 buses were transferred to the Rockland Coaches garage.
