SBS Transit (Previous name: Singapore Bus Service [SBS]) was founded in 1973 with the merger of three private bus companies (Amalgamated Bus Company Limited, the Associated Bus Services (Private) Limited and the United Bus Limited), SBS was listed on the Stock Exchange of Singapore in 1978 under the name of Singapore Bus Service (1978) Limited.

Singapore Bus Service was renamed as SBS Transit in November, 2001 when the company become the multi-modal transport operator (Bus operation, Taxi, North-East MRT Line, Sengkang and Punggol LRT systems).

SBS Transit became the first local operator to win a tender under the Bus Contracting Model in April 2017, and will begin operating the Seletar Bus Package in the first quarter of 2018. (Technically SBS Transit secured the services at Ang Mo Kio and Yio Chu Kang, and gained the service at Yishun from SMRT Buses)

In Feb 2018, SBS Transit won the other BCM package - Bukit Merah Package, in general SBS Transit secured all of the routes in this package, that's include the Cross-Border services - 160 & 170. [1].
