The Southern California Rapid Transit District (known as RTD) was the public transportation provider in the Southern California region serving Los Angeles County and some of its neighboring counties from 1964-1993

  • Some units had their manual transmissions replaced.
  • 5520 was part of Ralph Cantos's "Comatose Bus Collection" (taken over by Egon Kafka) in Fontana, CA, where it sat for about 25 years in a non-operational state. It was acquired by Scott Richards/Regional Transit Service in September 2017 and is undergoing repairs. It retains its original manual transmission.

  • 3166 & 3244 were bought by Maria Transportation in Hoboken, NJ in 1989.[6]

  • Used for the Urban Mass Transportation's Double Deck Bus Demonstration Project (July 1974 to June 1977).
  • Became training buses in 1982 and were sold off in 1985.
    • 1 unit was bought by Lightrider, a mobile retreat ministry in Indiana. It was later sold to Eagle Wings, another mobile retreat ministry in 2000 and remains there today.[8]

  • Ex-Golden Gate Transit 451-460; bought in 1984.
  • Entered service in January 1984. They were originally used for service during the 1984 Olympics. During that time, they wore a modified Golden Gate Transit livery with RTD logos.
  • They featured Perkins diesel engines to power their HVAC units. The HVAC wiring system was simplified so they would only operable when the engine was running.
  • Featured EEC wheelchair lift systems in the second door, but were never used.
  • Their original bumpers were later replaced.
  • Operated out of Division 7, originally on the route 1 and later route 20.
  • Retired in 1991.
