San Francisco MUNI 5003-5345 were 1975-1977 Flyer E800 trolley buses. They were all initially delivered in MUNI's Landor livery .

Repaint History

Many units received repaints of their original Landor paint scheme in the late 1980's^[1] to early 1990's. When buses were repainted, the interiors were also repainted. Some units never received a repaint (noted below). Some units received repaints before being painted into a newer livery, but others were not repainted in Landor beforehand.

Rollsign History

Rollsign Index

The rollsigns on the buses had 5 iterations over the course of their service lives. The signs originally had all capital letters. New readings were spliced in for routes 24 and 49. New rollsigns with all of the newer readings were later installed. An example of the differences would be the following: "1 CALIF vs 1 California." "45 Union Van Ness" was noted after the rollsign upgrade.^[2] This was later changed to "45" with a blank destination.^[3] The "45 blank" eventually became the general blank sign. "45 Union Stockton" was finally added.

Route History

41 usually got bounced back and forth between Potrero and Presidio.
The flyer trolleys covered the 12 Ocean, 9 Richland and 55 Sacramento before the major route changes that took place in 1980.
January 1992: Flyers assigned to 9 line trippers in the morning.
June 1992:
- 30 moved from Presidio to Potrero.
- 7 moved from Potrero to Presidio.
- 33 moved from Potrero to Presidio on weekends.
1993: 30 moved back to Presidio.
1994: Weekend 30 moved to Potrero with some Presidio coaches.
2004:
- All remaining Flyers at Presidio moved to Potrero:
- The 6 was the last line to be designated accessible.
- The ETI's on the 41 was swapped with the Flyers on the 6 and towards the end of their service. They were found on the old 7 line in the morning and the 22 & 24 on pull in trippers from the 41 after the morning peak.
- The last flyer trolley to run on the 14 was 5208.

Retirement History

A number of units (mainly out of Potrero) were pulled from service and were sitting in a lot off Army Street because they were used for parts. Some units were repaired and returned to service, but others retired early circa 1991-1994.^[4] All remaining active units at Presidio transferred to Potrero in 2004. The majority of the buses retired circa 2001-2005. The last 16 units left in service retired in 2007.
