Route History

The Seattle City Council, in 2008, agreed to propose a new streetcar "network", using funding from an existing Sound Transit package.[1] Sound Transit, in 2009, included a First Hill streetcar project in ST2, one of many of their expansion plans. The deal involved the City of Seattle, who took funds from existing transit funding to pay for the cost of building the line.[2]

Three years later, after deciding the alignment and stations that should be along the Capitol Hill-Intl District line, the City of Seattle began construction on the line in 2012.[3] The streetcars, by Inekon, completed manufacturing a year after the alignment finished construction.[4]

The First Hill streetcar started on running in January 2016[5], but the official ceremony took place on Lunar New Year of 2016.[6]
