Route History

The City of Seattle began construction for the South Lake Union line streetcar in July 2006.[1] The $51 million cost was paid for by various private business owners that existed along the corridor, along with baseline funding from the city.[2] Various streets, such as Westlake Ave and Terry Ave had their configuration change to support the streetcars directions.[3][4]

The streetcar project was finished in its anticipated timeframe in late 2007, and on December 12, it began service.[5]

In March 2016, the City reconfigured Westlake Ave, this time adding transit only lanes in an attempt to reduce induced demand and increase streetcar reliability.[6] The city also funded the extention of the BRT Rapidride C Line along the Westlake Corridor, to supplement service towards South Lake Union.[7]

In March 2020, the streetcar was suspendedroute was suspended in September 2020 due to COVID 19[8], but was restored in September.[9]
