Sheppard Bus Service |
Sheppard Bus Service is a charter and school bus operator based in Bridgeton, New Jersey, with locations throughout southern New Jersey. The company also leases vehicles through a subsidiary company, Carson Valley Leasing (formerly Canyon Creek Leasing), based in Genoa, Nevada.
History
Sheppard Bus Service was founded by Kenneth Shepard in 1952 as an operator of three school buses. The company later branched out into coach operations, eventually selling the school bus portion of the business to Laidlaw Transit in 1988. John Sheppard reestablished the school bus business in 1998 and it has branched out to additional depots in Millville, Carmel, Trenton, Mays Landing, Burlington and Southampton. While the school bus business continues to thrive with the company making annual purchases of between 10 and 30 new units (mostly from IC Bus), the motorcoach business has downsized since then with only a handful of Van Hool buses in the fleet along with some smaller units built on IC Bus and Freightliner chassis.[1]
