The Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit District (SMART) is a passenger rail service operating in the counties of Sonoma and Marin, California. Service was set to begin in 2016, but was held off until an official opening day of August 25, 2017.[1]. The approximately 112.5 kilometre (approximate 70 mile) route will travel along the Northwestern Pacific Railroad alignment between Cloverdale in the north and Larkspur in the south. The route parallels Highway 101 and is expected to take more than 1.4 million car trips off the highway annually.[2]
