Sound Transit 321-329
Sound Transit 321-329 are Bombardier Bilevel Series IX cab cars built in 2017.
These are Sound Transit's first cab cars to incorporate Crash Energy Management (CEM) features. The new front end of the cab car is designed to withstand and absorb a greater load. In addition, the operators' cab, which is now positioned 29 inches higher, features improved ergonomics.
The cars were purchased with funding from the Sound Transit 2 bond measure which also funded four more daily round trips on the Sounder South Line (Seattle–Lakewood). The purchase of the cars was approved by the Sound Transit Board of Directors in 2014.
Car 323 was the first to be delivered, being delivered by freight railroad to King Street Station on 7/24/2017. Car 323 was also the first to enter revenue service on 9/20/2017.
