Sound Transit 9400-9419
Sound Transit 9400-9419 were 2001 New Flyer Industries C40LF buses. All models are 40 feet in length with seating for 39 individuals. These buses are used for express services and are equipped with bike racks.
These are the first C40LFs delivered for use by Sound Transit. Plans for operating CNG buses began in 1998, when Sound Transit worked with Pierce Transit to operate a CNG/Diesel fleet. Eventually, Sound Transit acquired these CNG buses by piggybacking Pierce Transit's CNG order for 2001. Each bus in the series had a cost of around $351,226 2001 USD.
These buses were planned for retirement in 2014. These units have a replacement cost estimated at $500,000 as of March 2010[1].
All buses in this series are stored at the Pierce County transit garage operated by Pierce Transit, as Sound Transit does not have CNG facilities.
