Sound Transit route 599 'Lakewood / Tacoma'
599 Lakewood/Tacoma was an express bus route operated by Sound Transit in the Puget Sound area of Washington State. This route was operated by Pierce Transit under contract[1].
Route Details
This north-south express bus route ran between Tacoma and Lakewood with connection to the Sound Transit Sounder South system. This route provided two way service with two trips in the off-peak direction and seven trips in the peak direction during peak hours. Southbound service to Lakewood was timed so that trips do not depart until the Sounder arrives at Tacoma Dome Station. No weekend or holiday service was available.
Fares for this route had to be prepaid at station ticket vending machines prior to boarding. Pierce Transit buses provided service on this route[2].
This was a temporary bus route; the 2009 Service Implementation Plan budgeted for this route to be discontinued in 2012 with the extension of Sounder commuter rail services from Tacoma Dome Station to South Tacoma and Lakewood[3]. However, due to funding constraints, the 2011 Draft Service Implementation Plan has provisions for the discontinuation of the route as of June 2011 if approved by the Sound Transit Board of Directors[4].
