Stagecoach East
Stagecoach East is a bus operator serving Bedford, Cambridge, and Peterborough, England. It is a division of Stagecoach Group.
History
The predecessor to Stagecoach East was created in 1984, when Cambus was formed as a company in preparation for privatization of the National Bus Company. Cambus was sold in a management buyout in December 1986. Cambus spun off its Peterborough operations to a separate company Viscount Bus and Coach Company in 1989, which remained owned by Cambus Holdings.
Stagecoach purchased Cambus and its subsidiaries in December 1995. Its name was changed to Stagecoach Cambus, but was shortly renamed to Stagecoach East. As a condition for the sale, Stagecoach was required to sell Cambus' operations in Milton Keynes (to MK Metro) and Buckinghamshire (to Premier Buses). The Buckinghamshire operations were reacquired by Stagecoach East in 2008, after having last been operated by Cavalier Contracts as Huntingdon & District. In August 2010, a reorganization saw Stagecoach in Northants transferred from Stagecoach East to Stagecoach Midlands.
