Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation 8401-8416 were 1984 Flxible Metro "A" (40102-6T) buses delivered new to the Southeastern Michigan Transportation Authority. They were the last fixed-route buses purchased by SEMTA. They were transferred to SMART on January 17, 1989, and retained their original numbers. They were built without rear doors.

All were retired in 1995 after SMART acquired enough of their own buses to allow for the retirement of all ex-SEMTA vehicles. They were all assigned exclusively to the Oakland Terminal throughout their life and were mainly used on the Woodward Avenue routes.
