36 Finch West is a bus route operated by the Toronto Transit Commission in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Route Details

This route services Finch Avenue West between Yonge Street and Humber College Boulevard, and the Humber College area via Humber College Drive, Humberline Drive and Humberwood Boulevard. It also provides services to the businesses along Fenmar Drive, Toryork Drive, and Milvan Drive. Eastern terminals include Finch West Station for 36B, 36D and 36F, and Finch Station for 36A and 36J. Western terminals include Humberwood Loop for 36B and 36J, Finch West Station for 36A, and Milvan Drive at Weston Road for 36D and 36F.

When the Line 1 extension was opened, the route was split at Finch West Station to ensure better service reliability. Most eastbound buses now terminate at Finch West Station with a separate branch for dedicated service between Finch West and Finch Stations. Buses will only run the full route (Finch Station - Humberwood) during late evenings on weekdays and early morning and evenings on weekends. Branches 36D and 36F only operate during rush hours on weekdays.

History

January 2, 2005 - Route made accessible with low-floor buses.

October 16, 2005 - Branch 36D to Weston Rd & Milvan is changed to operate directly from Milvan Drive to Finch Avenue West. Buses on this branch will no longer serve Rumike Road, Lindy Lou Road, and Jayzel Drive.

August 31, 2008 - Bike rack service is added to route 36.

June 20, 2011 - Branch 36F is introduced providing new weekday peak-period service to businesses along Fenmar Drive between Weston Road and Ormont Drive. Buses follow the routing of branch 36D, however it operates via Fenmar Drive and Ormont Drive.

March 31, 2014 - Short turn branches 36A to Kipling and 36C to Jane are eliminated. Branch 36B to Humberwood is redesignated 36.

May 10, 2015 - Route is added to the Ten Minute Network. With service increased during the late evenings on Sundays, service over the entire route from Finch Station to Humberwood Loop will operate at intervals of ten minutes or better whenever the subway is open.

December 17, 2017 - With the opening of the new Line 1 extension, all service is changed to serve the new Finch West Station. Peak-period branches 36D and 36F to Weston Rd. & Milvan are cut back to terminate at Finch West Station. During the late evenings on weekdays and evenings on weekend and Holidays, service will operate on branch 36J (Finch Station - Humberwood). During all other periods, service between Finch Station and Humberwood is split at Finch West Station with branches 36A (Finch West Station - Humberwood) and 36B (Finch Station - Finch West Station).

Overnight Service

Overnight service is provided by 336 Finch West , except on Finch Avenue West between John Garland Boulevard and Carrier Drive, and on Toryork, Milvan, and Fenmar Drives.

Express Service

Express service on Finch Avenue West is provided by 939B Finch Express between Finch Station and Dufferin Street.
