Route Details

This route mainly provides service on Midland Avenue between Eglinton Avenue East and Steeles Avenue East. Its southern terminal is Kennedy Station and the northern terminal is Steeles Avenue East for its one branch, 57.

History
- April 24, 1967 - Route begins operation out of Birchmount Division. Route runs along Midland Avenue between Kingston Road and Ellesmere Road. Operated Monday to Friday, 12 hours a day.
- May 11, 1968 - With the opening of the Bloor-Danforth extension to Warden Station, buses operated between Warden Station via St. Clair Avenue East to Ellesmere Road. Saturday service added. Service south of St. Clair provided by route 20 Cliffside.
- September 8, 1970 - Route extended from Ellesmere to Sheppard.
- December 7, 1970 - Route extended from Sheppard to Finch.
- May 14, 1973 - Monday to Saturday evening service provided.
- September 7, 1976 - Branch 57A created. Route operated via the regular routing, east on Sheppard, north on Brimley, to Finch.
- August 31, 1980 - Sunday/holiday service provided.
- October 3, 1980 - Route extended from Finch to Passmore. No change to destination signs.
- November 22, 1980 - Route restructured due to the opening of the Bloor-Danforth extension. All branches cut back to Kennedy Station. Service south of Eglinton provided by route 20 Cliffside.
- July 24, 1983 - Moved from Birchmount Division to the newly opened Malvern Division.
- March 23, 1985 - Route restructured due to the opening of the Scarborough RT with branch 57A incorporated into route 128 Brimley North. Rollsigns changed from “Finch” to “Steeles”.
- March 15, 1987 - Route extended from Passmore to Steeles.
- June 26, 1988 - With the temporary closure of the Scarborough RT, a temporary 57A short turn rush hour branch was established operating between Kennedy Station and Midland Station.
- September 5, 1988 - The Scarborough RT reopens and 57A branch ends.
- November 20, 1988 - Moved from Malvern Division to Birchmount Division.
- February 18, 1996 - Moved from Birchmount Division to Malvern Division.
- July 28, 1996 - Route made accessible.
- January 10, 2000 - The Steeles loop is closed. Buses re-routed via west on Passmore, north on Silver Star and East to Steeles before continuing south on Midland.
- September 3, 2000 - Moved from Malvern Division to Danforth Division.
- April 1, 2001 - Buses exiting service at the north end of the route begin to complete the on-street loop in it's entirety before finishing the route.
- March 31, 2002 - Moved from Danforth Division to the new Eglinton Division on Comstock Road.
- January 7, 2010 - Moved from Eglinton Division to Birchmount Division.
- May 7, 2017 - Moved from Birchmount Division to Malvern Division.
- June 24, 2018 - Moved from Malvern Division to Eglinton Division.
- March 28, 2021 - This route was transferred to the brand new McNicoll Division.
- May 9, 2022 - Routing is modified to operate north via Midland Avenue to Steeles Avenue East and loop using the Redlea Avenue cul-de-sac. The clockwise looping via Passmore Avenue, Silver Star Boulevard, and Steeles Avenue East is removed.
Overnight Service
Overnight service is not provided, however, the route operates until 1:00 AM every day.
