University of Kansas has a campus bus system in the city of Lawrence, KS known as KU on Wheels. It is administered by Kansas University Parking & Transit and operated by MV Transportation.[1]

History

KU on Wheels was operated by Lawrence Bus Co. from 1960 to 2007.[1] In 2008, the Lawrence Transit System and KU on Wheels created a partnership that allowed riders of one bus system to ride the other for free.[2]

  • Ex-Sacramento RT 9002-9004, 9010-9012, 9014, 9024, 9026, 9028, 9031, 9032, 9035, 9036, 9039-9041, 9043, 9044 & 90??; purchased from Transit Sales International in summer 2007.[11][1][12]
  • 317 & 320 remain in the fleet as of 2018, likely in reserve status. Only 317 was left by 2020; it was retired sometime before September 2020.
  • 2 units (serials L1083329 & L1083339) transferred to Lawrence Transit System and became 913 & 924. They remain part of their fleet as of 2018.
  • 306, 315, 316, 318 & 321 retired in fall 2013. They were auctioned off on 8/25/2014.[13][14][15][16][17]
    • 306, 316, 318 & 321 were bought by a scrapper. They were scrapped at Recycling Services LLC in Atlantic, IA in September 2014.[18]
    • 315 was bought by a private owner. It was listed on Craigslist in Manhattan, KS in August 2015.
  • 308 & 322 retired in summer 2015. They were auctioned off in July 2015 and again on 1/21/2016.[19][20] They were bought by a party bus business in Effingham, IL. 308 was registered on 5/5/2016.[21] 322 was listed on ebay in April 2016[22] and again in January 2017.[23] It was eventually sold to a 2nd private owner (Lic. Plate: 387377AV?) and registered in Illinois on 7/26/2017.[21] It was listed on Facebook Marketplace in Highland, IL on 10/30/2020.[24]
