York Region Transit 1911-1914
York Region Transit e1911-e1914 are 2020 model New Flyer XE40 buses built in late 2019 and delivered in February 2020.
They were ordered as part of the CUTRIC Pan-Canadian Electric-Bus Demonstration and Integration Trial, in coordination with Brampton Transit. Funding for the electric buses was initially provided by York Region and the Province of Ontario, with in-kind contributions provided by New Flyer (including maintenance, support and training during the trial period). The provincial government contribution was cut in July 2018 following the elimination of the provincial Cap-and-Trade program, with the full capital cost of the buses picked up by York Region.[1]
These buses were the first buses to enter service equipped with new PRESTO card readers. 1911-1912 were originally wrapped in a special green/blue "eBus" livery, and were unwrapped in early 2022. Also in 2022, all units had their fleet numbers replaced with the addition of an "e" prefix.
These buses may be found on routes 44 Bristol, 52 Holland Landing, 55 Davis Drive, 56 Gorham-Eagle, and school specials. An OppCharge fast-charger, located in the commuter parking lot of Newmarket terminal, charges the buses between runs.
