York Region Transit 601-609
York Region Transit 601-609 are New Flyer D40LF built and delivered in 2005. They were originally supposed to be delivered in early 2006, but were delivered early (late 2005) instead. They were ordered to replace older buses and increase service.
Although these buses are numbered in the 6xx series (making them seem like 2006 buses), they are in fact 2005 buses. The 6xx numbering is due to the fact they were originally supposed to be delivered in 2006 (therefore 2006 buses) and that the 5xx series is completely full, with 3 relatively large YRT orders (541-570, 571-585 and 591-598) and all the ex-Vaughan buses (512-530) filling the category. These were the last 40ft buses delivered in the original YRT livery.
582-585, 605-609 and 610-615 were initially assigned to Southwest Division until August/September 2008, when they were sent to other divisions. 582-585 and 605-606 were sent to Southeast Division in exchange for nothing, while 607-609 and 610-615 were sent to North Division in exchange for 619-621, 623, and 713-717.
This series of buses began their mid-life refurbishment in early 2016. Refurbished buses received bodywork and repainting, rebuilt powertrain, reupholstered seats, new flooring and received LED headlights and LED interior lights except 607-609 which already received LED interior lights by June 2014. The last bus was completed by Summer 2017.
These buses are normally found on 1 Highway 7, 2 Milliken, 8 Kennedy, 9 9th Line, 14 14th Ave, 16 16th Ave, 18 Bur Oak, 24 Woodbine, 25 Major Mackenzie, 32 Aurora South, 33 Wellington-Leslie, 40 Unionville Local, 44 Bristol, 50 Queensway, 51 Keswick, 52 Holland Landing, 54 Bayview, 55 Davis, 56 Gorham-Eagle, 57 Mulock, 81 Inspiration, 82 Valleymede, 90B Leslie, 91/91A/91B Bayview, 96 Keele-Yonge, 98 Yonge, 99 Yonge, and school specials.
