The Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV is a two-axle battery-electric double deck bus. Metroline in London, England was the launch customer, taking 37 buses for route 43. The order was announced in June 2018, and the first bus was delivered in the first half of 2019.[1]

When first introduced, the Enviro400EV, like the Enviro200EV, was developed in co-operation with BYD Auto. It uses BYD's iron-phosphate batteries, which are placed at the rear and within the wheelbase. Plug-in AC and DC charging are avialable along with roof rail charging. The drive axle incorporates two 150 kilowatt hub motors. The Enviro400EV has a range of up to 160 miles. In 2021, a shorter 5.4 metre wheelbase 10.3 metre long Enviro400EV was introduced.

In November 2022, Alexander Dennis introduced their next generation integral Enviro400EV. The bus uses the Voith Electrical Drive System and prismatic nickel-manganese-cobalt batteries assembled by Impact Clean Power Technology to Alexander Dennis's design. Underfloor battery packs are mechanically isolated rather than directly bolted to the chassis and feature a stainless-steel container and aluminum cooling plate. Two battery capacity options offer a range of either 195 or 260 miles. The buses have a new look shared with the Enviro100EV that include new headlight assemblies. The windscreen offers better visibility and is raked to be safer in a collision with a pedestrian. There is more internal flat floor space and more headroom at the rear.[2] The BYD Enviro400EV is still offered alongside this new version.
