Durham Region Transit Wentworth Division
Wentworth Division was one of three operating divisions of Durham Region Transit. It primarily operated routes in Whitby, Scugog, and Uxbridge.
The garage was located at 2095 Forbes Street in Whitby, ON. It was owned by contractor PWTransit.
History
In April 2016, the Region issued a new request for proposals for the operation of transit in Whitby and the northern communities. Six compliant proposals were received from Miller Transit, MV Transportation, PWTransit Canada, Ride Right, TOK Transit, and Trentway-Wagar. After a detailed evaluation, PWTransit had scored the highest. They were awarded the five-year contract with options for two one-year extensions. The contract took effect on January 2, 2017. With the change in contractors, DRT vehicles were relocated from Coach Canada's garage (Victoria Division) to PWT's new facility.
The garage consisted of an outdoor storage, with a small building containing two repair bays and a small office upstairs for staff. Buses are fueled at the Ultramar Gas Station, located across from the previous Victoria Division property. Major repairs and maintenance are often completed at DRT's Raleigh Division.
In 2023, DRT decided to eliminate a separate division in Whitby, instead operating service out of its two existing Region-operated facilities (Raleigh and Westney). Due to a driver shortage with PWTransit, routes 301 and 319 were transferred to Westney Division in mid-2023. The full transition began with weekend service on routes 302 and 905 being transferred to Westney effective December 7, 2023. The last day for operations out of Wentworth Division was December 22, 2023, and all DRT buses were transferred to Raleigh or Westney Divisions during the last week of December 2023.
