Other transit systems in the Twin Cities metropolitan area:

History

Metro Transit operations go back to 1967, when the agency was first formed by legislation to take over the remaining private transit operations in the Minneapolis - Saint Paul metro area. The system was first known as the Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC) from 1967 to 1994. In 1994 transit operations were handed over to the Metropolitan Council, a regional oversight agency responsible for wastewater and land planning. From 1994 to 1998 the agency was known as Metropolitan Council Transit Operations (MCTO) and finally in 1998 the current name, Metro Transit, was adopted.

Fares

Metro Transit is part of the regional transit fare system. See the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area Transit Systems Fare Description for more information.
