History

The METRO Red Line is Minnesota's first bus rapid transit line. MVTA ordered buses from NovaBus to take advantage of available manufacturing time slots to try to begin service in 2012. The Red Line opened in 2013.[1]

In August 2020, the Metropolitan Council reported Metro Transit will assume Red Line operations beginning December 5, 2020. The agency also plans to retire the fleet because it's exceeded its useful mileage. All of its buses, except 4254 because it has not exceeded its useful mileage, were retired by December 5, 2020 and will be auctioned off by Fahey Sales on February 13, 2021.[2]
