Years of manufacture 2006 to present

The Optare Olympus is a low floor double deck bus body. It was introduced in 2006 by East Lancashire Coachbuilders. When East Lancs was bought by the Darwen Group, the Olympus became a Darwen product, and finally an Optare product in 2008.

It is constructed with Alcan “System 5430” heavy-duty extruded aluminium alloy sections. The roof and intermediate roof structures are constructed using Alcan's Airex foam composite to reduce overall vehicle weight.

The Olympus is available on the Alexander Dennis Enviro400, Scania N230UD, and Volvo B9TL chassis. The tri-axle Olympus on the Volvo B9TL was introduced in 2009 with Tyrers in Adlington, England.[1] Optare announced in September 2009, that an integrated option using Optare's own chassis would be made available.[2] The integral model was expected to complete all final testing during the second quarter of 2010, with initial production starting in September that year.[3]
