The Philadelphia Transportation Company or "PTC" is a former mass-transit provider for the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
History
- Took over operations from the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company on January 1st, 1940
- Franchise rights owned by National City Lines from 1955-1966. By 1958, three-quarter of PTC trolley lines were abandoned, replaced with bus services. 984 streetcars were replaced with approximately 1000 buses.
- The Philadelphia Transportation Company (PTC) was acquired by SEPTA on September 30, 1968, which included bus, trolley, and trackless trolley routes, and the Market-Frankford Line and the Broad Street Line in the City of Philadelphia. This became the City Transit Division.
