This route services Maple Road between Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital and Orchard Lake Road, Orchard Lake Road between Maple Road and 12 Mile Road, 12 Mile Road between Orchard Lake Road and Farmington Road, Farmington Road between 12 Mile Road and Oakland Drive, Oakland Drive between Farmington Road and Orchard Lake Road, Orchard Lake Road between Oakland Drive and 11 Mile Road, 11 Mile Road between Orchard Lake Road and American Drive, American Drive between 11 Mile Road and Franklin Road, Franklin Road between American Drive and Telegraph Road, Civic Center Drive between Telegraph Road and Evergeeen Road (via Berg Road, Northwestern Highway and Beaumont Boulevard back to Civic Center Drive), Evergeeen Road between Civic Center Drive and 9 Mile Road and 9 Mile Road between Evergreen Road and Providence Drive. This route also services the Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge Campus Hub as well as OCC's Southfield location.

History

  • July 1, 1991 - Route introduced as 400 Southfield/Orchard Lake, contracted to ATE Management & Services. Route runs between the Northland Center Hub and Summit Place Mall via 9 Mile Road, Evergeen Road, Civic Center Drive, Franklin Road, 11 Mile Road, the Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge Campus Hub, Orchard Lake Road and Telegraph Road.
  • June 9, 1994 - SMART takes over operation after privatization costs are eliminated after ATE's drivers joined the Amalgamated.
  • April 24, 1995 - A non-stop zone is instituted within West Bloomfield Township after that community opts out of SMART.
  • December 11, 1995 - Northern end of the route is truncated to the Oakland Community College Orchard Ridge Campus Hub. Route is renamed to 400 Southfield/Orchard Ridge.
  • September 5, 2017 - The Northland Center Hub closes, necessitating the elimination of the route south of JL Hudson Drive.
  • March 23, 2020 - Route extended back south to Northland Drive.
  • September 6, 2021 - Route extended west to Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital. Evening service is also introduced.
