Tahoe Transportation District facilitates, implements, and delivers transportation projects in the Tahoe Basin, for the five counties surrounding Lake Tahoe. They also operate transit service for communities on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe in El Dorado County, CA and Douglas County, NV.
TTD provides year-round scheduled service to the City of South Lake Tahoe, Stateline, and Kingsbury, with commuter service into Carson City. Additional seasonal service is offered to other communities and tourist destinations around Lake Tahoe, including Camp Richardson, Emerald Bay, Tahoma, and Tahoe City, with connections to Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit.
History
Tahoe Transportation District was formed in 1980, through a Compact formed between the states of California and Nevada to manage the resources and responsibilities around Lake Tahoe.
In 2010, South Tahoe Area Transit Authority declared bankruptcy. TTD took over management of transit in the South Lake Tahoe area effective November 1, 2010. Keolis was awarded a contract to operate the transit service; this contract was not renewed in 2016, and TTD took operations in-house.
