The Allison eGen Flex is a zero-emissions-capable hybrid system for transit buses. Announced in 2020 and made commercially available in 2021, it is the first product offering under the new eGen brand.

Replacing the Allison EP System, the eGen Flex features a new drive unit, lighter and smaller inverter, and rechargeable energy storage system. The drive unit includes a disconnect clutch to allow the engine to stop running. The inverter is now water ethylene glycol cooled, eliminating oil lines. The energy storage system uses Lithium Titanate (LTO) cells with a capacity of 26 kilowat-hours. With greater energy density, the vehicle can travel for extended ranges on electricity only. Vehicle accessory systems, such as air conditioning and heat, can be powered by electricity.

There are two models available: eGen Flex and eGen Flex Max. The eGen Flex has similar capabilities as the EP System while the eGen Flex Max offers fully electric propulsion for up to 10 miles. The eGen Flex and eGen Flex Max will be offered in CertPlus model configurations for sale in California Air Resources Board (CARB)-adopting states.
