Cardinal Coach Lines 1654 and 1655 were 1995 model Thomas MVP-EF buses. The units featured tall untinted windows, air brakes, and an interior speaker/PA system.

Both units were originally assigned to Cardinal's Yellowknife Transit contract in the Northwest Territories in 1999 alongside 1650, 1651, and 1662. As part of this service commitment, the units were painted in a special white, black and yellow livery. 1654 spent only a year in service Yellowknife before being returned to the Calgary branch in 2000, where it was repainted back into school bus yellow. 1655 spent much more time in Yellowknife, operating there until 2008, at which point it was also transferred to Calgary and repainted into school bus yellow for use on regular school routes.
