Cardinal Coach Lines 2809-2817 were 1997-99 model Blue Bird International 3800 buses. A defining feature of these units were their high-backed passenger seats; a feature not typical on school buses in the Calgary area at the time. Other features included an internal speaker/PA system and an exterior light monitor panel above the driver's seat.

The units were originally delivered to a Ryder Student Transportation branch in the U.S. state of Illinois. They would then be transitioned into the First Student fleet in 1999, following its acquisition of Ryder Student Transportation. Cardinal Coach Lines went on to purchase the units in 2006, with the units being imported into Canada and delivered to the Calgary branch the same year.
