The North American Bus Industries 65-BRT is a 65 foot low floor transit bus designed for bus rapid transit (BRT) service. The welded steel structure is phosphated internally and externally, coated internally with anti-corrosion material, and coated with epoxy externally. The underfloor area is undercoated, as well as insides of roof and side skins to prevent drumming and condensate formation. Wheel housings, stairwells, main electrical compartment and battery compartment are stainless steel. The 65-BRT is available with the choice of wide or narrow rear doors. The front door is a wide plug type door. Frameless windows are an option for the NABI 65-BRT.
There is currently only one 65-BRT known to be in existence. NABI lengthened the front section of LACMTA 60-BRT 9495 by five feet, creating the prototype 65-BRT — the longest transit bus in North America. 9495 operated on the LACMTA Metro Orange Line, a busway largely separated from other traffic, in 2007 and 2008, and was later returned to NABI. The LACMTA purportedly ordered 100 production 65-BRTs for the Orange Line, although the status of this order is unknown.
