St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School is a secondary school at 230 Shaftsbury Avenue, just east of Bathurst Street in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. It is served by 7 routes (4 of them school specials). Since the school is home to the Advanced Placement program, it draws students from outside the school boundaries as well as inside their own boundary.

Conventional Service

  • 80 Elgin Mills - The route terminates at the Elgin West Community Centre at Shaftsbury Avenue and Bathurst Street, which is within walking distance of the school.
  • 83 Trench - One trip in the morning and one in the afternoon divert along Shaftsbury Avenue to serve the school.
  • 88 Bathurst - Regular trips stop on Bathurst Street at Shaftsbury Avenue, within walking distance of the school.

Routing Details

AM: This route starts on Centre Street East just east of Pugsley Avenue, then operates via Centre Street East, Pugsley Avenue, Dunlop Street, Wright Street, Hall Street, and Mill Street, where buses follow the routing of the route 83 school trip detour to the school on Shaftsbury Avenue.

PM: Reverse AM routing.

History

  • May 9, 2004 - Route 440 is introduced as one of the original school specials serving St. Theresa. It was named "St. Theresa School Special 3" and follows the same routing as today.
  • September 5, 2004 - Route is assigned the number 440, which was also assigned to route 440 for the Richmond Hill School Special 1, which follows an identical routing.
  • September 5, 2023 - Route will no longer serve the Richmond Hill GO Station bus terminal. The eastern terminus will be on Centre Street East, one bus stop east of Pugsley Avenue.

Route Details

AM: This route starts on Bathurst Street at McCallum Drive and operates via McCallum Drive, Don Head Village Boulevard, Major Mackenzie Drive West, Bathurst Street, Queen Filomena Avenue, Via Romano Boulevard, Dimarino Drive, Lady Fenyrose Avenue, Teston Road, Bathurst Street, and Shaftsbury Avenue to the school.

PM: Generally reverse routing, however the route operates via south on Larratt Lane and west Elgin Mills Road after departing the school. It also operates over the same clockwise looping via Via Romano Boulevard, Dimarino Drive, Lady Fernrose Drive, and Teston Road.

History

  • May 9, 2004 - New school special route commences service as one of the original St. Theresa School Specials and was named "St. Theresa School Special 1". It initially operated between Bathurst Street and Carrville Road and the school.
  • September 5, 2004 - Route is assigned the number 446.
  • September 3, 2006 - Route 446 was extended southward along Bathurst Street from Carrville Road to Promenade Terminal in the 2006 school season.
  • September 2, 2008 - Route is revised to divert via west on Queen Filomena Avenue, north on Via Romano Boulevard, and east on Teston Road, no longer operating via Bathurst Street along this stretch.
  • November 14, 2010 - A further diversion was implemented to serve Dimarino Drive and Lady Fenyrose Avenue. Morning and afternoon trips loop clockwise via Dimarino Drive, Ladyrose Avenue, and Teston Road.
  • September 2013 - Originally operated fully by Southeast Division, Southwest Division assumed operations in the 2013 school season. As proposed in the 2013 Annual Service Plan, service is truncated to start and end trips on Bathurst Street at McCallum Drive instead of Promenade Terminal.

AM: This route starts on Tower Hill Road at Rollinghill Road. It then proceeds via east on Tower Hill Road, south on Yonge Street, west on Gamble Road, north on Rollinghill Road, west on Tower Hill Road, south on Selwyn Road, west on Gamble Road, south on Bathurst Street, and east on Shaftsbury Avenue to the school.

PM: Reverse AM routing except that it follows the same clockwise looping via Tower Hill Road, Yonge Street, Gamble Road, and Rollinghill Road.

  • January 8, 2023 - As a pilot for the 2023 school year, the route is extended to provide service on Jefferson Sideroad between Yonge Street and Bathurst Street.
