Route 20 serves Jane Street between Teston Road and Steeles Avenue West.

This route serves the Vellore Village, Maple, Concord, and Vaughan Corporate Centre communities. It also serves Canada's Wonderland, Maple High School, and Vaughan Mills Terminal.

Route 20 connects to Viva Orange at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station via SmartCentres Place Bus Terminal.

History

Under Vaughan Transit, Jane Street only had transit service south of Langstaff Road, which was operated by the TTC's route 35D Jane. YRT extended route 4 Major Mackenzie south on Jane Street to meet 35D at Langstaff Road in 2001.

October 23, 2004 - YRT introduced a thorough service along Jane in the form of route 20 'Jane-Concord'. When introduced, it had full, 7 day a week service.

November 4, 2004 - Service was introduced into the Vaughan Mills Terminal.

June 26, 2005 - Routing is slightly modified to operate via Edgeley Boulevard between Langstaff Road and Courtland Avenue.

September 2005 - Route 4 was cut back to end by looping along Melville Avenue.

January 27, 2008 - Limited service along Edilcan Drive, Creditstone Road, and Locke Streets is introduced. Two northbound and two southbound trips a day divert to serve these streets.

November 6, 2008 - Route 20 was affected by the York University strike between November 6, 2008 and January 29, 2009.

September 2010 - Route 20 was declared accessible.

July 3, 2011 - Due to subway construction, bus service into York University was moved to Keele Street instead of Founders Road.

April 22, 2012 - Weekend and Holiday service is modified to bypass the Jane/Langstaff industrial area and operate along Jane Street between Courtland Avenue and Interchange Way. Weekday service continues to serve the industrial area west of Jane Street.

June 30, 2013 - The Melville portion of route 20 was eliminated, replaced by new route 26 Maple Local. In addition, buses no longer enter the bus loop at Canada's Wonderland, instead serving the park from Jane Street. Finally, route 20 was renamed from "Jane-Concord" to "Jane".

August 31, 2014 - The branch of route 20 providing direct service on Jane Street was rebranched route 20A.

June 26, 2016 - Service was discontinued on branch 20, and as a result, branch 20A was redesignated to 20. Weekday service along Millway Avenue and limited service via Creditstone Road was also discontinued at this time.

December 17, 2017 - With the opening of the Line 1 subway extension to Vaughan, route 20 was rerouted to end at Pioneer Village Terminal. Before 2pm, southbound trips serve Pioneer Village Station, then York University before returning back to terminate at Pioneer Village Terminal. After 2pm, southbound trips terminate at Pioneer Village Terminal, then northbound service loops through York University before continuing northbound. Route 20 was also diverted into Highway 407 Station and Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station. With the large amount of traffic expected after the opening of the subway, YRT converted a number of Van Hool AG300 buses from Viva service to operate on route 20.

January 7, 2018 - Southbound service at the southern-end is streamlined to serve Pioneer Village Terminal, then loop through York University before returning and terminating at Pioneer Village Terminal during all service hours.

April 29, 2018 - Further changes were made to the new subway routing. All southbound trips serve Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station while northbound trips bypass via Jane. Southbound trips started serving Pioneer Village Terminal directly via Jane and Steeles, while the routing to the terminal for return trips is revised to operate via Ian Macdonald Boulevard and Northwest Gate, and no longer using Founders Road.

September 2, 2018 - The route was restructured to discontinue direct service to York University, with service terminating at Pioneer Village Terminal.

November 3, 2019 - With the opening of the new SmartCentres Place Bus Terminal at Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station, the route now directly serves the terminal in both directions.

Spring/Summer 2022 - Limited-stop express shuttle buses were operated on weekends as part of the Route 20 Jane to handle seasonal Wonderland crowds. In the morning, a few extra buses would operate in express service northbound, serving only Vaughan Metropolitan Centre terminal, Vaughan Mills Mall and Wonderland (street-loading outside), and deadhead back south. This arrangement was reversed in the afternoon for crowds heading home. Buses would typically loop using Melville and Avro or Springside at the north end. This arrangement was eventually replaced with the new Route 720 in early July.

November 6, 2022 - Service diverts into the new Major Mackenzie West Terminal.

Route 20 is primarily a 60ft route, and uses New Flyer Industries XD60 buses. Occasionally, New Flyer D40LF/D40LFR/XD40, Van Hool A330 or Nova Bus LFS may provide service.
