The current routing of Route 12

Route 12 is a frequent route and runs from St. Laurent Station, serving the communities along Montreal Rd. and ending at Blair station in Gloucester North.

History

February 7th, 2009

  • New route created to replace the eastern portion of Route 2. The change was supposed to be on January 4th but was delayed due to a strike.

June 21st, 2009

  • Will be on detour from July 6 until approximately August 28 due to the closure of the intersection at Rideau Street and King Edward for repairs.

September 4th, 2011

  • Will be revised slightly at Blair Station to operate along City Park East to provide improved service on Ogilvie west of Blair.
  • Special peak period trips will be added between downtown and La Cité collégiale via Den Haag, replacing Route 15.
  • In the evenings and on weekends, the route Will end downtown at the Rideau Centre in the evening and on weekends, instead of Bank Street, which will continue to be served by Routes 1, 2, 4, 7 and 16.

September 2nd, 2012

  • Route will start one stop earlier, at the National Arts Centre instead of the Rideau Centre, for all eastbound trips in the evening and on weekends to improve convenience and reduce walking distances for customers.
  • To meet the growing demand for service, additional trips that are over and above the normal seasonal increases will be added.

June 23rd, 2014

  • Weekday/Afternoon eastbound trips are shortened to start at Queen/Kent instead of Kent/Slater.

January 4th, 2015

  • Improved weekend service for Vanier residents: on Saturdays, a new late night trip will leave downtown at 1:47 AM and on Sundays, a new early morning trip will leave downtown at 6:42 AM and Blair Station at 6 AM.

April 24th, 2016

  • Larger buses were used on key trips.

September 2nd, 2018

  • Was originally proposed to make route terminate at Confederation Square, but after an outcry, the route was altered.
  • Route was extended to serve Queen Street at all times.

October 15th, 2018

  • Some weekday trips will be extended from Confederation Square to Bank Street via Elgin, Queen, O’Connor and Albert
  • Once Queen Street reopens to buses, will remain on Queen.

February 18th, 2019

  • Route is revised to start at Metcalfe/Sparks instead of Metcalfe/Queen.

October 6th, 2019

  • All trips will end on Queen at Metcalfe.
  • Trips to/from La Cité will be replaced by new Route 15.
  • For service west of Metcalfe, use Route 15 from Montreal Road and Rideau Street, or use Line 1 from Rideau Station.

January 5th, 2020

  • Route extension: The start and end of the route will be Parliament Station (previously was Metcalfe St.).
  • To Parliament: Early morning trip added at 4:33 AM from Blair/Montreal Rd.
  • To Blair: Frequency increased from every 15 min to every 12 min. between 1 PM and 3 PM.

March 30th, 2020

  • Due to low ridership from the COVID-19 outbreak. Service will be reduced to:
  • Every 15 to 30 minutes in the morning peak period and evenings.
  • Every 10 minutes in the midday and afternoon peak period.

April 2nd, 2020

  • New morning trips from Blair at 5:30 AM and 6 AM.

April 6th, 2020

  • New morning trip from Blair at 6:30 AM.

April 10th, 2020

  • New morning trip from Blair at 7:30 AM.
  • New morning trip from Parliament at 7:44 AM.

April 16th, 2020

  • New morning trip from Parliament at 8:42 AM.

April 21st, 2020

  • New morning trips from Blair at 5:00 AM, 5:38 am, 7:00 AM, and 9:38 AM.
  • New morning trip from Montréal Rd. and St. Laurent Blvd. at 6 AM.
  • New morning trips from Parliament at 6:44 AM, 7:14 AM, 10:27 AM.
  • New afternoon trips from Parliament at 1:29 PM, and 3:39 PM.
  • New afternoon trip from Blair at 3:05 PM and 3:25 PM.

April 26th, 2020

  • Will be revised to travel via Mackenzie King Station due to Rideau Street closing for a street renewal project.

May 14th, 2020

  • Additional trips added.

June 28th, 2020

  • Will be in service and will operate the same route network that was in place from January to March 2020, with some seasonal adjustments.

August 30th, 2020

  • Some trips will be temporarily suspended to reflect reduced ridership.

December 20th, 2020

  • Will return to their regular routing via Rideau Street with the completion of the Rideau St. Project.

April 18th, 2021

  • Due to the Montréal Road Revitalization Project, Route 12 will be shortened to operate between St. Laurent Station and Blair Station.
  • Revised Route 15 will replace service on Montreal Rd to and from Downtown and Gatineau.
  • The afternoon school trip from Collège catholique Samuel-Genest to Parliament Station will be renumbered as a school trip on Route 15.
  • The afternoon school trip from Lester B. Pearson High School to Parliament Station will be renumbered as new Route 615.
  • The morning and afternoon school trips between Parliament Station and Gloucester High School will be renumbered as new Route 616.

December 19th, 2021

  • Will continue to operate on weekday evenings and weekends.
  • Will continue to only operate between Blair and St-Laurent despite Montreal Rd. reopening.

April 24th, 2022

  • Select trips will be cancelled due to low ridership.
