70 Swartz Bay / Downtown via Highway 17 is a regional route operated by Victoria Regional Transit System in Greater Victoria, BC.

Route description

Route 70 serves the communities of Downtown Victoria, Uptown, Sidney, and Swartz Bay. Its northern terminus is Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal, and its southern terminus is Legislature Exchange. It also serves Royal Oak Exchange and McTavish Exchange. Schedules are typically designed to connect with vessels departure and arrival times on Tsawwassen - Swartz Bay and Swartz Bay - Fulford Harbour.

It is designated as a Regional route, operating every 15-60 minutes with limited stops. Route 70 offers a faster, more direct trip between Victoria and Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal compared to route 72, which makes local stops.

A southbound express variant of the route operates as 70X which leaves Swartz Bay earlier than regular 70 trips and does not stop in Sidney, making it more convenient for tourists arriving from the ferry going directly to Downtown.

The last southbound trip of the night terminates at Gorge Road rather than Downtown.

History

  • July 3, 2023: 70X express trips become official, rather than unscheduled overload trips. One additional early northbound trip added on weekdays in the summer to serve the 6am ferry from Swartz Bay.
