Central Fraser Valley Transit System

Central Fraser Valley Transit System is the transit system serving the City of Abbotsford and the District Municipality of Mission in the western portion of the Fraser Valley Regional District in British Columbia. Local funding and governance is provided by Abbotsford, Mission, and the Regional District. Provincial share of funding, planning and administrative support and vehicle fleet is provided by BC Transit. Operations are contracted to Transdev Canada.

History

• Prior to establishment of transit service, only public transportation was provided by Pacific Stage Lines, which provided limited service between Fraser Valley town Centres and to New Westminster and Vancouver.
• April 1, 1979 Mission Transit System established. Mission at the time was part of the former Dewdney-Allouette Regional District. HandyDART service added sometime in 1980s.
• August 28, 1986 Abbotsford-Matsqui Transit system and HandyDART system established. Abbotsford was at the time part of the former Central Fraser Valley Regional District.
• 1995 a major redrawing of Regional District boundaries results in Langley(ex CFVRD), Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows(both ex Dewdney-Allouette) moving into the Greater Vancouver Regional District. Abbotsford(ex CFVRD) and Mission(ex Dewdney-Allouette) are combined along with the former Fraser-Cheam Regional District (east Fraser Valley) into the Fraser Valley Regional District as it is today. The Abbotsford-Matsqi and Mission system were combined into one system at this time.
• 2000s System rebranded for a time as ValleyMax system.
• September 4, 2007 Service extended to Aldergrove, providing for the first time a connection with the Metro Vancouver Translink bus system.
• April 16, 2015 Route 66 Fraser Valley Express, operated by the Chilliwack Transit System but funded in part by the City of Abbotsford begins service, connecting Abbotsford to Translink system to the west and Chilliwack to the east.
• December 2020 The transit system opened up a new yard at the corner of Gladys Road at Highway 11. This new facility was built with the capacity to fuel and serve CNG buses.
