232 Grouse Mountain/Phibbs Exchange is a bus route operated by Coast Mountain Bus Company in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Route Details
This is a north-south route running in North Vancouver connecting Grouse Mountain, Edgemont Village, and Phibbs Exchange. Service runs daily every 30 minutes.
Northbound trips depart Phibbs Exchange heading west on Oxford Street, south on Mountain Highway, west on Main Street, north on Brooksbank Avenue, west on Keith Road E., north on Lonsdale Avenue, west on W. Queens Road, north on Woodbine Drive, south on Highland Boulevard, west on Edgemont Boulevard, north on Capilano Road becoming Nancy Greene Way to Grouse Mountain.
Southbound trips depart Grouse Mountain heading south on Nancy Greene Way becoming Capilano Road, east on Edgemont Boulevard, east on W. Queens Road, south on Lonsdale Avenue, east on Keith Road E., south on Brooksbank Avenue, east on Main Street, and north on Orwell Street to Phibbs Exchange.
One early morning weekday southbound trip starts at Clements Avenue & Capilano Road in the Upper Capilano area heading east on Clements Avenue, south on Cliffridge Avenue, west on Montroyal Boulevard, south on Capilano Road, and then the regular route to Phibbs Exchange.
When school is in session, two school specials in the afternoon start at Capilano Road & Teviot Place towards Phibbs Exchange with no changes in routing.
On Saturday mornings, one trip starting at Phibbs Exchange short-turns at Edgemont Village and routes via regular routing until Edgemont Boulevard & Ridgewood Drive, where it heads west on Ridgewood Drive, north on Capilano Road to the 3600 Block on Capilano Road, where it returns to Phibbs Exchange heading north on Capilano Road, then east on Edgemont Boulevard and then the regular route to Phibbs Exchange.

History
- October 1953 - Keith Road portion of the route introduced as Keith–Seymour–Hastings. Operated from Ferry Wharf (now Lonsdale Quay) via Keith Road to either Kootenay Loop or to Lynnmour.[1] This also made up parts of the current routes 211 Seymour/Vancouver and 28 Joyce Station/Phibbs Exchange.
- December 1955 - Route renamed Keith–Hastings.[2]
- November 1959 - Queens Road portion of the current route is introduced as Capilano–Queens. Route operated from Queens at Lonsdale to Cleveland Dam.[3]
- January 1963 - Keith Road portion of present-day route is renamed 92 Keith via Second Narrows for service from Kootenay Loop to Esplanade at Lonsdale via Mountain Highway and Keith Road. Service in the opposite direction is renamed 91 Vancouver via Second Narrows. Queens Road portion of present-day route is renamed 90 Capilano for service from Queens at Lonsdale to Capilano at Clements (Cleveland Dam). Service in the opposite direction is renamed 89 Queens.[4]
- March 1967 - Routes 90 and 91 are discontinued. The 89 Queens route is altered to go from Kootenay Loop to the Seymour Terminal along Keith Road and Lonsdale Avenue, eventually continuing the previous route along Queens Road to Capilano Dam. Service in the opposite direction is renamed 92 Keith.[5]
- Circa 1970 - Newly opened Phibbs Exchange replaces Seymour Terminal.
- October 1973 - 89 Queens/Capilano College replaced the previous 89/92 combination. Service to Kootenay Loop discontinued. The western portion of the route is extended to Grouse Mountain Skyride; the eastern portion of the route extends from Phibbs Exchange to Capilano College via Lillooet Road.[6]
- February 1974 - Service is routed to Kootenay Loop instead of Capilano College.[7]
- May 1977 - Peak-hour service between Kootenay Loop and Lonsdale at 15th doubles to every 15 minutes.[8]
- October 1977 - Route renamed 232 Queens
- March 1986 - Southern terminus moved to Phibbs Exchange from Kootenay Loop [9]
- January 1989 - Re-routed through Brooksbank Avenue and Keith Road to serve the new Park & Tilford Shopping Centre [10]
- December 1991 - Accessible service introduced on select trips[11]
- September 1994 - Service revised with every other trip terminating at Capilano Suspension Bridge instead of continuing on to Grouse Mountain[12]
- December 1994 - All midday weekday trips extended to Grouse Mountain[13]
- October 2001 - Late evening service daily discontinued due to service duplication, funding shortfall and low ridership. Passengers switched to the 236 Grouse Mountain/Lonsdale Quay[14][15]
- June 2012 - Short-turn trips between Phibbs Exchange and Lonsdale Ave at 15th Street eliminated[16]
- September 2016 - North Vancouver Transit Centre closed down, operations moved to Burnaby Transit Centre
- September 2022 - School trippers revised to start from Capilano Road & Teviot Place instead of Capilano Road & Edgewood Road
- July 24, 2023 - Phibbs Exchange upgrades: Terminus moved onto street-side exchange on Orwell Street
- August 7, 2023 - Phibbs Exchange upgrades: Bay relocated from Bay 12 (SB Orwell NS Main) to Bay 4 (NB Orwell FS Main) to improve transfer connections
- May 6, 2024 - Completion of Phibbs Exchange upgrades: Stop relocated inside the new loop.
