The purpose of this page is to provide a short summary of important events in a timeline format regarding the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority of Buffalo, New York.

2007

  • The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority makes their sixth Gillig purchase, in their Advantage (T-40 and T-40 Hybrid) series. A total of thirten diesel buses were purchased from this Hayward, California bus manufacturer.

March

18: Spring schedule change takes effect.

23: The Niagara Falls Transit Center on Factory Outlet Boulevard near Military Road opens. All Niagara Falls City routes are realigned to service the new transit center.

2010

  • The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority makes their seventh Gillig purchase, in their Advantage (T-40) series. A total of eleven diesel-electric and fifty-four diesel buses were purchased from this Hayward, California bus manufacturer. Monies for this purchase were through the Federal (US) government's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. In addition, this marks the return to full fiberglass seating for passengers on the buses. In addition, two forty-foot Trolley Replica buses were purchased from Gillig.

September

3: Fall timetables take effect.

October

31: Metro bus timetables experience a timetable change, at a time uncharacteristic of their normal timetable changes. Part of the changes at this timetable change include:

  • 4 Broadway: "C" service to Lancaster moved to new route 46 Lancaster.
  • 5-Niagara: City service via Niagara Street merged with route 30-Kenmore, creating new route 5-Niagara/Kenmore. Service over Sheridan Drive replaced by new route 35 Sheridan.
  • 6 Sycamore: "C" and "D" variations moved to new route 46 Lancaster.
  • 8-Main: Service on "B" variation over Michigan eliminated.
  • 13 Kensington: Service on "B" variation over Main and Kensington eliminated.
  • 15 Seneca: Service on "C" variation into East Aurora from Southgate Plaza eliminated.
  • 19 Bailey: "B" variation of service from Bailey/Abbott to South Park and Victory Transit Center via McKinley Parkway eliminated.
  • 24 Genesee: Service between Buffalo Airport and Wende facilities moved to new route 27 Wende Shuttle.
  • 27-Wende Shuttle: New route replacing 24C service into Wende.
  • 30-Kenmore Av: Kenmore Avenue service merged into new route 5-Niagara/Kenmore. Service between University Station and Buffalo Airport replaced by new route 47-Youngs Road.
  • 35-Sheridan: New route replacing 5D service over Sheridan Drive. Service extends to UB North Campus, instead of Amherst Development Park.
  • 46-Lancaster: New route replacing 4C, 6C and 6D service into Lancaster. Bus will operate on a loop over Walden, Central and Broadway.
  • 47-Youngs Road: New route replacing 30C and 30D trips over Main Street to the Buffalo Airport.
  • 57-Tonawandas: New route replacing Tonawanda and North Tonawanda services of routes 20T and 25D.

2011

  • The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority makes their eighth and ninth Gillig purchase, in their 40 foot low-floor trolley replica and their Advantage (T-40 Hybrid) series. A total of two trolley replicas and thirty diesel-electric buses were purchased.

September

4: Autumn schedules change on many routes.

December

25: Winter schedules change on many routes.

2012

  • The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority makes their tenth Gillig purchase, in their Advantage (T-40 Hybrid) series. A total of fourteen diesel-electric buses were purchased from this Hayward, California bus manufacturer.

March

25: Spring schedules change.

2013

  • The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority makes their eleventh Gillig purchase, in their forty-foot trolley replica series. A total of four buses were purchased from this Hayward, California bus manufacturer.

February

18: The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority closed Theater Station permanently, and begins construction on a automobile/Metro Rail-shared roadway between the portal north of the closed station and Chippawa Street. Passengers displaced by the station closure would use Fountain Plaza station as an alternate boarding/departure point.

March

10: Spring schedule changes take effect, #'s 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 15, 20, 25, 26, 32, 34, 35, 40, 42, 46, 47, 48, 54, 55, 57, 69, 70, 106.

June

16: Metro implements summertime schedule changes, mainly reduced seasonal service where ridership may be lighter than during the year.

24: Metro Rail construction project begins, ultimate goal of returning traffic to sections of Main Street in Downtown Buffalo. The section betweeen Erie Canal Harbor Station and Allen-Medical Campus Station is changed to single tracking, with a change between trains required at Church station for passengers to complete trips that continue beyond the station. Trains are scheduled to operate on a reduced schedule of once, every 20-22 minutes, seven-days-a-week.

September

1: Autumn timetables changed, reflecting seasonal changes, and start of classes at local schools. Metro Rail service continues to operate at a reduced schedule, due to construction in Downtown Buffalo on the transit mall.

October

14: Metro Rail construction project completed in Theater District, and trains are permitted to two-track usage above ground between Erie Canal Harbor Station and Allen-Medical Campus Station.

December

1: Winter timetables changed at the beginning of December, instead of Christmas week. General changes are made to seasonal times.

2014

March

9: Spring changes were made, impacting a number of routes. Affected routes include routes 1, 3, 4, 5, 11, 12, 13, 19, 26, 32, 35, 40, 44, 48, 49, 54, 55, 69, 70, 72, 74, 75, and 76. Most changes involve minor changes to trip times. Route 40-Grand Island exhibited a high number of additions to its Saturday service, and Sunday service trips were more evenly spaced.

30: Metro Rail reverts to single-tracking in the Downtown Buffalo transit mall, specifically the Fountain Plaza area. Passengers make transfers at Church Street station to continue their trips.

The work is expected to continue into the fall of 2014.

April

2: Metro Rail schedule changes.

27: Schedule for route 67-Cleveland Hill updated.

May

12: The route 55T Trolley service returns for another tourist season in Niagara Falls. Service is expected to continue until October 31, 2014.

25: The Buffalo Marathon affects routes throughout the Delaware District of Buffalo. Affects routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 14, 16, 20, 22, 25, 32, 40.

June

1: Changes to route 204-Downtown-Airport Express.

10: The Metro Rail changes to have both the Erie Canal Harbor > Church, and Church > University sections operate on the inbound track only, until further notice. Work completed approximately one week later.

14: The Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation sponsors a race, affecting route 11, 12, 20, 25, 26 buses

15: Many changes are made to urban schedules, reflecting summertime seasonal changes. Routes affected include 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 32, 34, 40.

July

18-20: Metro Rail shut down between Allen-Medical Campus Station and Erie Canal Harbor Station due to construction related work. Shuttle buses are put into service to service the same area. Buses operate outbound (to Allen) via Washington Street and via inbound (to Erie Canal) via Pearl Street.

21: Metro Rail switches from inbound to outbound track in Downtown Buffalo, with the opening of the new Fountain Plaza Metro Rail Station.

August

1-3: Washington Street closed, between Huron and Mohawk for Chalkfest Buffalo. Routes are rerouted over Ellicott in the comparable area. Affects routes 6, 14, 16, 24, 36.

3: Area near Niagara Square is closed between 7:00am-4:00pm. Affects routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 20, 25, 40.

6-17: Erie County Fair adds service on routes 14 and 16.

31: Metro Bus fall schedules take effect. The most notable change is the pending implementation of Metro "Flex" service on route 57-Tonawandas, allowing paratransit customers curb-to-curb service within 3/4 mile of the route. Bus service will be operated on an increased frequency compared to previous service, on one-hour intervals. Also, significant reductions are made to route 27-Wende, with three round-trips offered daily. Also, buses will be routed over Genesee, Transit, Main and Harris Hill to Genesee. Other changes are made to routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 32, 34, 40, 48, 50, 52, 54, 55, 66, 204, 206.

September

4: The first "Metro-Flex" service, on route 57 Tonawandas, inaugurated.

6: Metro detours for the 12th Annual Puerto Rican and Hispanic Parade along Niagara Street between Niagara Square and Connecticut Street (between 10:00am and 1:00pm). Routes affected; 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 11, 20, 22, 25, 40.

9: Further seasonal changes to improve service, made to routes 12, 13, 23, 24, 111, 112.

23: Changes to routes 36 Hamburg and 48 Williamsville timetables.

27: Buses on route 20 Elmwood rerouted for "20 Block Bash Anniversary Party" in the vicinity of the Elmwood Village. Buses rerouted over Richmond Avenue between 3pm-11pm.

October

8: Route 16 South Park changes timetable. 12:20pm trip from Downtown Buffalo changed to later 12:40am departure.

11: Metro Rail shuts down for surface work in Downtown Buffalo. Bus shuttles offered in place of rail service.

19: Metro Rail schedule expected to return to pre-construction (normal) intervals.

24: 11 Colvin issued a new schedule for a better connection with route 26.

24-26: Metro Rail shut down Fri. Oct 24, 9 pm through Sun. Oct 26. Lafayette to Church St., due to construction on the Main Street Transit Mall. Shuttle services are available every 15 minutes between Lafayette Square Station and Erie Canal Harbor. Outbound buses operate over Washington, and inbound buses operate over Pearl.

31: Metro Rail issued a new schedule reflecting a return to regular service levels following summer-time construction completion.

November

5: Route 48 Williamsville adds an outbound departure weekdays at 8:20am, to Eastern Hills Mall, via ECC North.

10: Metro buses are rerouted in the vicinity of First Niagara Center as follows:

  • 14-Abbott, 16-South Park: Inbound regular route to MICHIGAN and PERRY, continue Michigan, right Carroll, right North Carroll, right Exchange, right Washington and continue regular route. Outbound regular route to WASHINGTON and EXCHANGE, left Exchange, left North Carroll, left Seneca, left Michigan and continue regular route.
  • 36-Hamburg: Inbound regular route to MICHIGAN and PERRY, continue Michigan, right Carroll, right North Carroll, right Exchange, right Washington and continue regular route. Outbound regular route to WASHINGTON and EXCHANGE, left Exchange, left North Carroll, left Seneca, left Michigan, left Perry and continue regular route.
  • 74-Hamburg Express: Inbound regular route to MICHIGAN and PERRY, continue Michigan, right Carroll, right North Carroll, right Exchange, right Franklin and continue regular route. Outbound regular route to Pearl and Seneca, left Seneca, right Washington, left Exchange, left North Carroll, left Seneca, left Michigan, left Perry and continue regular route.

18-23: Due to an early winter storm in the Buffalo-Niagara region, service is cancelled on routes 14, 15, 16, 36, 42, 46, 69, 70, 72, 74, 75, 76. In addition, route 19-Bailey only operates between University Station and Broadway/Bailey, and route 23-Fillmore only operates between Niagara/Hertel and Babcock Station. Route 1-William and 2-Clinton also operate between Downtown and Babcock Station only. Later on the 18th, route 27-Wende service cancelled. On the 19th, most services cancelled continue to be cancelled. Route 19-Bailey extends further south to Babcock Station. On the 20th, route 4-Broadway resumes Thruway Plaza service, and route 1-William extends to Appletree Business Park, although the buses turn around at Broadway and Union, instead of the business park. As of the 22nd, Routes 14 Abbott and 16 South Park operate from Downtown to Bailey & Abbott Loop, 2-Clinton buses operate to Bailey & Abbott Loop via Bailey, 19-Bailey buses are on regular schedule, and 23-Fillmore-Hertel buses are on regular schedule.

27: Reroutes on routes 11 Colvin & 25 Delaware due to annual Turkey Trot race.

December

7: Winter seasonal schedules take effect, affecting a number of routes. Routes 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 22, 23, 24, 25, 32, 34, 35, 36, 40, 44, 48, 49, 54, 55, 57, 69 and 79 are affected.

19: The Buffalo News announces that the NFTA will begin the process of eliminating the "honor" system in favor of a turnstile-based system of collecting fares on the Metro Rail system. In addition, the NFTA will also be replacing bus fareboxes with new ones, due to them arriving at the end of their useful life.[1]

31: Metro Rail service extended until 2:00am from Downtown Buffalo and 2:30am from University Station, for New Years Eve.

Late December/Early January: Buses on routes 11 Colvin and 25 Delaware rerouted in Downtown over Delaware, Tupper, Elmwood, Huron and Delaware inbound, and Delaware, Huron, Tupper, and Delaware outbound, due to construction at Delaware and Chippawa Streets. Routes 3-Grant and 20 Elmwood detoured over Huron outbound, instead of Chippawa, due to same construction.

2015

January

5: Changes made to route 34 Niagara Falls Boulevard timetable. Some early trips on weekends changed to not operate through Boulevard Mall.

8: Changes made to route 101 North-South timetable.

14: Changes made to route 57 Flex-Tonawandas timetable. Last trip out of Main & Niagara leaves four minutes later to 5:56pm, to better connect with buses from Downtown Buffalo.

21: Changes made to route 50 Main-Niagara timetable. Three Sunday trip times adjusted for better connections from other routes.

March

8: Spring seasonal changes take effect. Highlights include route 27 Wende being discontinued, and route 57 Flex-Tonawandas having half of the service eliminated due to low ridership. Other minor changes are made on routes 1 William, 2 Clinton, 5 Niagara-Kenmore, 6 Sycamore, 12 Utica, 14 Abbott, 24 Genesee, 25 Delaware, 32 Amherst, 36 Hamburg, 50 Main-Niagara, 54 Military, 60 Niagara Falls Express, and 106 South Suburban.

14: Buses serving the First Ward in South Buffalo on reroute, due to St. Patrick's Day parade. Affects routes 14 Abbott, 16 South Park, 18 Jefferson, 23 Fillmore-Hertel, and 36 Hamburg.

15: Buses serving Downtown Buffalo are affected due to St. Patrick's Day parade. Affects routes serving on and near Delaware Avenue, between Niagara Square and North Street.

30: An outbound trip time on route 4 Broadway changed to operate to Thruway Plaza instead of Michael Loop.

April

6: Routes 32 Amherst and 67 Cleveland Hill Express rerouted off of Cleveland Drive, due to construction near the New York State Thruway.

13-14: From 9:00pm until end of service day, Metro Rail trains will operate on the inbound track, between Allen-Medical Campus station and Humboldt-Hospital station.

20-May 18: Originally scheduled for April 15, Metro Rail trains are scheduled to bypass Allen-Medical Campus station due to construction of the University at Buffalo medical school being built into the station. Shuttle buses will be applied from Summer-Best station to Allen-Medical Campus for the duration of the bypass. Metro plans to schedule buses to operate once every ten minutes during peak periods.

May

11-22: Routes 36 Hamburg and 74 Boston are placed on reroute outbound in the vicinity of Ohio Street. Buses are rerouted South Park, Hopkins, Tifft and Hamburg Turnpike to regular route.

15: Route 55T trolley service in Niagara Falls, resumes for the tourist season.

17: Due to a triathlon being sponsored by Erie Community College, buses on some downtown routes are being detoured:

  • 3-Grant, 5-Niagara, 11-Colvin, 20-Elmwood, 25-Delaware; Inbound @ SOUTH DIVISION AND WASHINGTON: TURN LEFT WASHINGTON, RIGHT CLINTON, RIGHT OAK, RIGHT NORTH DIVISION AND ENTER THE ELLICOTT LOOP FROM NORTH DIVISION.
  • 24-Genesee: Inbound @ ELLICOTT AND CLINTON TURN LEFT AT CLINTON, RIGHT OAK, RIGHT NORTH DIVISION AND ENTER ELLICOTT LOOP FROM NORTH DIVISION. Outbound LEAVE 3 MINUTES AFTER SCHEDULE LEAVING TIME NOTICE
  • 6-Sycamore: Inbound via REGULAR ROUTE to Washington and N. Division, right North Division, continue Church, left Upper Terrace, right Erie and continue regular route. Outbound REGULAR ROUTE TO Marine Drive and Erie, left Erie, continue Seneca, left Franklin, right Church, continue South Division, left Ellicott and continue regular route.
  • 24-Genesee: Inbound REGULAR ROUTE to Washington and South Division, left South Division, left into Ellicott Loop and layover. Outbound LEAVE Ellicott Loop three (3) minute after scheduled leaving time, via left North Division, right Ellicott Loop and continue regular route.
  • 14–Abbott, 36-Hamburg, 16 - South Park: Inbound REGULAR ROUTE to South Park and Louisiana, continue Louisiana, left Seneca, right Michigan, left North Division, right Ellicott, and continue regular route. Outbound REGULAR ROUTE to Washington and Eagle, left Eagle, left Ellicott, right Clinton, right Michigan, left Seneca, right Louisiana, left South Park and continue regular route.
  • 15-Seneca Inbound REGULAR ROUTE. Outbound REGULAR ROUTE to South Division and Ellicott, left Ellicott, right Clinton, right Michigan, and continue regular route.

23: Route 55-Pine Avenue detoured around Memorial Day parade along Pine Avenue. Buses rerouted outbound Pine, 15th, Ferry, 36th, to Pine and regular route. Inbound buses Pine 35th, Walnut, 16th, Pine to regular route.

24: Route 204-Airport/Downtown Express schedule adjusted for the summer.

June

7: Metro buses are rerouted for the Buffalo Pride Parade.

  • 20 Elmwood: Inbound via Elmwood, Nottingham, Delaware, Virginia, Elmwood to regular route. Outbound via Elmwood, Virginia, Delaware, Nottingham, Elmwood to regular route.
  • 12 Utica, 22 Porter-Best: Buses wait until crossing is able to be made across Elmwood.

13: The 58th Annual Allentown Art Festival will be held on Saturday, June 13th & Sunday, June 14th, 2015. Delaware Avenue will be closed to traffic between North Street and Chippewa Street from 6:00 AM Saturday, June 13th until 7:00 PM Sunday, June 14th, 2015. Booth and displays will be located along Allen Street between Elmwood Avenue and North Pearl, on both sides of Franklin Street between Virginia Street and Allen Street, and on Virginia Street between Franklin and Delaware, and on both sides of Delaware between North and Chippewa. 11-Colvin and 25-Delaware buses will be rerouted both Saturday and Sunday as follows:

  • 11-Colvin & 25-Delaware: Inbound REGULAR ROUTE to Delaware and Summer, right Summer, left Elmwood, left Huron, right Delaware and continue REGULAR ROUTE. Outbound REGULAR ROUTE to Delaware and Chippewa, left Chippewa, right Elmwood, right Summer, left Delaware and continue REGULAR ROUTE.
  • Operators must use extreme caution while operating in the vicinity of this event and must follow the instructions of the Police, Supervisors and Controllers.

13: A Parade will be conducted by Juneteenth Festival Inc. on Saturday, June 13, 2015. Marchers and vehicles will form at 10:00 AM at Doat & Genesee. At 11:00 a.m. the parade will proceed via west on Genesee, right Best, right Fillmore and enter Martin Luther King Park where the parade will end. When the parade is in progress, operators will reroute as follows:

  • 22 Porter/Best: Inbound REGULAR ROUTE to Walden and Sobieski, left Sobieski, right Sycamore, right Fillmore, left Genesee, right Herman, and via REGULAR ROUTE. Outbound REGULAR ROUTE to Best and Herman, right Herman, left Genesee, right Fillmore, left Sycamore, left Sweet, right Walden, and via REGULAR ROUTE.
  • 23 Fillmore/Hertel: Inbound REGULAR ROUTE to Fillmore and Utica, right Utica, left Kensington Expressway, exit Best, left Best, right Herman, left Genesee, right Fillmore and via REGULAR ROUTE. Outbound REGULAR ROUTE to Fillmore and Genesee, left Genesee, right Herman, left Best, right Kensington Expressway, exit Humboldt Parkway, right Utica, left Fillmore and via REGULAR ROUTE. Fillmore closed, Northampton to Best, Sat. June 13 – Sun. June 14. Buses will reroute using French, Kehr and Genesee.
  • 24 Genesee: Inboudn REGULAR ROUTE to Genesee and Bailey, left Bailey, right Walden, continue Sycamore, right Fillmore, left Genesee and via REGULAR ROUTE. Outbound REGULAR ROUTE to Genesee and Fillmore, right Fillmore, left Sycamore, continue Walden, left Bailey, right Genesee and via REGULAR ROUTE.

13: On Saturday June 13, 2015, the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is sponsoring a race. The race will form at Lincoln and Rumsey at 7:00 AM and move at 9:00 AM and travel over the following route: Leave Lincoln and Rumsey via South on Lincoln, around Soldiers Circle, left Chapin Parking, right Delaware, right Utica, right Atlantic, left Lexington, right Elmwood, right Bidwell Parkway around Soldiers Circle to Lincoln Parkway where the race will end.

  • 11-Colvin & 25-Delaware: Inbound REGULAR ROUTE to Delaware and the Rt. 198 East ramp entrance, right 198 East ramp entrance, exit Main, right Main, right Bryant, left Delaware and continue regular route. Outbound REGULAR ROUTE to Delaware and Bryant, right Bryant, left Main, left Humbolt, continue 198 expressway Westbound, exit Delaware, right Nottingham, left Delaware and continue regular route.
  • 20-Elmwood: Inbound REGULAR ROUTE to Elmwood and Forest, right Forest, left Richmond, left Summer, right Elmwood and continue regular route. Outbound REGULAR ROUTE to Elmwood and Summer, left Summer, right Richmond, right Forest, left Elmwood and continue regular route.
  • 12-Utica: Inbound REGULAR ROUTE to Delaware and Utica, left Delaware, right Bryant, right Elmwood, left Utica and continue regular route. Outbound REGULAR ROUTE to Elmwood and Utica, right Elmwood, left Bryant, left Delaware, right Utica and continue regular route.
  • 26-Delavan: Inbound REGULAR ROUTE to Delavan and Delaware, right Delaware, left Nottingham, left Elmwood, right Delavan, and continue regular route. Outbound REGULAR ROUTE to Delavan and Bidwell, left Bidwell, left Elmwood, right Nottingham, right Delaware, left Delavan and continue regular route.

21: Metro Bus summer schedules take effect, affecting many routes.

  • Many routes will experience longer headways due to school being out.
  • Route 55L Pine Avenue service eliminated due to low passenger ridership. Buses will end at BOCES / NCCC.
  • Route 57 Flex-Tonawandas will be eliminated, with some service extended on route 25D Delaware to Mid-City Plaza, to replace lost service.
  • Maps showing permanent and temporary changes in routing are applied to routes 3 Grant, 7 Baynes-Richmond, 8 Main, 12 Utica, 14 Abbott, 16 South Park, 20 Elmwood, 36 Hamburg, and 74 Boston.

25: The Chase Corporate Challenge race will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015. Approximately 10,000 runners will form at Colvin and Amherst at 5:45 PM. At 6:45 PM, the runners will proceed west on Amherst, left Delaware, around Gates Circle, north on Delaware, right Nottingham, right Meadow to Ring Road, and finish at the tennis courts. During this event, 11-Colvin, 25-Delaware, 26-Delevan, and 32-Amherst Buses will reroute as follows:

  • 11-Colvin: INBOUND REGULAR ROUTE to Colvin and Linden, right Linden, left Delaware, right Great Arrow, left Elmwood, left Ferry, right Delaware and continue regular route. OUTBOUND REGULAR ROUTE to Delaware and Ferry, left Ferry, right Elmwood, right Great Arrow, left Delaware, right Linden, left Colvin, and continue regular route.
  • 25 Delaware: INBOUND REGULAR ROUTE to Delaware and Great Arrow, right Great Arrow, left Elmwood, left Ferry, right Delaware, and continue regular route. OUTBOUND REGULAR ROUTE to Delaware and Ferry, left Ferry, right Elmwood, right Great Arrow, left Delaware, and continue regular route.

12-23: The NFTA continues its tradition of offering direct service to the Erie County Fair from routes 14 Abbott & 16 South Park. Of additional note; route 36 Hamburg serves the South Park Entrance of the fairgrounds weekdays.

6: Winter timetables take effect. Most notable changes are the movement of a number of routes in Riverside/Black Rock to the new Black Rock/Riverside Transit Center on Niagara Street at Ontario Street. Routes affected include routes 5-Niagara, 23-Fillmore/Hertel, 32-Amherst, 35-Sheridan and 40-Grand Island. Time adjustments are also made on other routes.

2016

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority begins delivery of 20 new Nova Bus LFS-CNG buses, numbered 1501-1520. The buses are assigned to Frontier Station.

6: Spring timetables take effect. Most notable changes include:

  • 11 Colvin is changed on all trips to operate over Hertel Avenue, between Delaware and Colvin, instead of Amherst Street. Also, minor changes are made to a number of route trip times.
  • 46 Lancaster: a major increase in service, due to the opening of a new Walmart, located on Walden Avenue, between Union and Dick Roads. A few trips are added weekdays, and new service included on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

May

5: Cinco de Mayo festivities rerouted a number of routes in Downtown Buffalo, resulting in reroutes on routes 6, 8, 14, 16, 24, 36, 68.

13-22: Route 55T renamed "Niagara Falls Trolley", and begins service Friday to Sunday.

27: The Niagara Falls Trolley begins daily service for the tourist season. Service is scheduled to continue daily until October 2nd.

29: Due to Buffalo Marathon, a number of changes are made to routes west of Main Street in Buffalo. The most significant reroutes are on routes 11, 20, 25. In addition, many crosstown routes are rerouted around the race.

  • NOTE: Amherst will be closed between Parkside and Starin. All other reroutes will be as needed. If the streets are blocked buses will use the appropriate reroutes. When closed the following reroute will be as follows:

11-12: The Allentown Arts Festival will close Delaware Avenue, between North Street and Tupper Street. Reroutes are as follows:

  • 11 Colvin and 25 Delaware. Inbound buses operate over regular route to Summer, right Summer, left Elmwood, left Huron, right Delaware to regular route. Outbound buses operate regular route to Niagara Square, continuing over square to Niagara St exit, Niagara, right Elmwood, right Summer, left Delaware to regular route.

11: The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is sponsoring a race. The race will form at 7:00 AM and move at 8:00 AM and travel over the following route: Leave Ganson and Michigan, right Michigan, left South Park, right Main, right Perry, right Michigan, left South Park, right Chicago, left Ohio, left South Street, right St. Clair, right Ohio, left Michigan, left Ganson where the race will end.

  • 6-Sycomore and 8-Main: Buses will be re-routed away from the corner of Scott and Seneca to avoid race using that intersection.

18: A Parade will be conducted by Juneteenth Festival Inc. on Saturday, June 18, 2016. Marchers and vehicles will form at 9:00 AM at Doat & Genesee. At 11:00 a.m. the parade will proceed via west on Genesee, right Best, right Fillmore and enter Martin Luther King Park where the parade will end. When the parade is in progress, Operators will reroute as follows:

19: Summer timetables take effect. Many changes are seasonal adjustments to service levels with school recesses during the summer. Other changes include:

  • 3 Grant: Service moved from Frontier Station to Baxter Loop (Vulcan & Tonawanda) as outbound terminal. Service removed from Vulcan, east of Skillen, and Kenmore Avenue, between Vulcan and Military Road.

  • 32 Amherst: Service removed from Elmwood Avenue into Buffalo State College.
  • 40 Grand Island, 50 Main/Niagara, 55 Pine Avenue: Changes made to routing in Downtown Niagara Falls.
  • 46 Lancaster: Later service operated daily to serve late shift changes at Walden Avenue Walmart.
  • 54 Military: Modified routing inside Niagara Falls Fashion Outlets property.

23: The Chase Corporate Challenge[2] race will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2016. Approximately 10,000 runners will form at Colvin and Amherst at 5:45 PM. At 6:45 PM, the runners will proceed west on Amherst, left Delaware, around Gates Circle, north on Delaware, right Nottingham, right Meadow to Ring Road, and finish at the tennis courts. During this event, 11-Colvin, 25-Delaware, 26-Delevan, and 32-Amherst Buses will reroute as follows:

4: The Annual July 4th Parade in Cheektowaga will close Walden from Harlem to Peppy Drive from approximately 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, July 4, 2016. When closed buses will operate as follows.[3]:

5: The NFTA Metro Rail will operate shuttles between Allen/Medical Campus Station and Summer-Best Station due to ongoing construction at Allen/Medical Campus Station. Buses will operate every 15 minutes on a loop from Carlton and Main via Main, Dodge, Michigan, Best, Ellicott and Carlton to Main. Buses will make stops at Carlton at Main, Main at North, Summer-Best Station, Ellicott at East North Street, Ellicott at High, Ellicott at Carlton, and Carlton at Washington.[4]

8-11: From 8/8 (noon) until 8/11 (6am), the closing of Niagara Square, Court Street, and Delaware Avenue for the Taste of Buffalo.
