Route Details

Route 51 serves the Hespeler Road corridor; branch 51A serves the Silver Heights neighbourhood, while branch 51B serves the Hespeler Village neighbourhood. It also connects to Ainslie Terminal, Cambridge Centre Station, and SmartCentres Cambridge.

From Ainslie Terminal, all buses operate via north on Ainslie Street, north on Water Street, north on Hespeler Road, east on Pinebush Road, north and west through SmartCentres Cambridge, and east on Groh Avenue to Holiday Inn Drive. Branch 51A loops via north on Goebel Avenue, east on Queen Street, north on Guelph Avenue, west on Fisher Mills Road, north and east on Scott Road, north and east on Poplar Drive, north on Guelph Avenue, east on Blackbridge Road, south and west on Baldwin Drive, south on Guelph Avenue, west on Queen Street, south on Goebel Avenue, and south on Holiday Inn Drive to Groh Avenue. Branch 51B loops via south and east on Holiday Inn Drive, north on Franklin Boulevard, east on Winston Boulevard, northwest on Cooper Street, northeast on Queen Street, east on Melran Drive, south on McMeeken Drive, south on Kerwood Drive, east on Ellis Road, south on Townline Road, southwest on Jamieson Parkway, north on Cooper Street, west on Winston Boulevard, south on Franklin Boulevard, and west and north on Holiday Inn Drive to Groh Avenue. Both branches then continue north on Goebel Avenue, west on Queen Street, south on Hespeler Road, east and south through SmartCentres Cambridge, west on Pinebush Road, south on Hespeler Road, loop through Cambridge Centre Station, south on Hespeler Road, south on Water Street, and south on Ainslie Street to Ainslie Terminal.

Route 51 connects to the Ion Bus at Ainslie Terminal, Delta Station, Can-Amera Station, Cambridge Centre Station, and Pinebush Station.

Some trips may enter/exit service at Cambridge Centre Station. Southbound trips are typically signed as "51 to Ainslie Terminal".

History

  • 2012 - Sunday hours extended to operate from 8:00 am to 12:00 am.
  • 2014 - Route extended north of Hespeler Terminal, with new 51A, 51B, and 51C branches introduced; replacing routes 65, 66, and 71.
  • 2015 - 51C branch discontinued following introduction of route 203.
