Route 9 serves the Lakeshore Village neighbourhood north of University of Waterloo. It also connects to University of Waterloo Station and Conestoga Station.

From University of Waterloo Station, buses operate via north on Phillip Street, west on Columbia Street, north on Hagey Boulevard, east and north on Wes Graham Way, north on Parkside Drive, west on Cedarbrae Avenue, north on Glen Forrest Boulevard, west on Toll Gate Boulevard, north on Highpoint Avenue, east on Northlake Drive, south on Skylark Road, east on Northfield Drive, and south on Kraus Drive to Conestoga Station. Buses in the opposite direction follow the reverse routing.

Buses typically interline with routes 13, 19, and 30 at University of Waterloo Station.

Route 9 connects to Ion at University of Waterloo Station, Research and Technology Station, Northfield Station, and Conestoga Station.

September 2013 - Weekday midday service increased to every 15 minutes between University of Waterloo and Cedarbrae/Glen Forrest; Sunday frequency increased to every 45 minutes.
2015 - Inbound trips no longer service UW Davis Centre, and use the opposite side of Ring Road.
