The New Flyer Industries D40, later known as the D40HF, was a transit bus sold in Canada and the United States between 1987 and 1994. It was introduced shortly after Den Oudsten purchased Flyer Industries from the Manitoba Government in 1986. Renamed, New Flyer, the company adopted a number of Den Oudsten's design and manufacturing elements.[1]

The D40 used a tubular steel structure. This, along with fibreglass body panels, helped reduce the vehicle's weight. Wheel housings were stainless steel, as were the stepwells, though they could also be fibreglass. The bus was offered with either a T-drive or V-drive powertrain configuration.
