Malton Garage is one of two garages used by MiWay in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the Malton area of Misssissauga, at 6780 Professional Court.
In 1990, MiWay decided to begin constructing 'satellite' garages across the city. These garages would be smaller in scale, feature outdoor storage, and be located across the city to reduce capital costs of constructing large indoor facilities as well was reduce operating costs from buses deadheading across the city. Although Malton was to be the first of several 'satellite' garages, ultimately it was the only one constructed.
Construction of the garage began in 1991 by Maystar Contracting Ltd. at a cost of approximately $4 million. Malton opened for operations on Monday, January 27, 1992 with capacity to accommodate 80 buses, although approximately 55 buses were assigned to the garage upon opening. Buses were stored outside under canopies and connected to a 'UWE' heating system which kept the buses warm during colder winter months. A indoor building with administrative offices, driver's lounge, maintenance bay and wash bay was also constructed.
In 2007, work was undertaken to expand the capacity of the garage to accommodate 100 buses. With Central Parkway Garage undergoing a major expansion, Malton would operate additional routes and be open on weekends. A lot was paved to the north of the existing canopies, allowing additional storage for approximately 15 to 20 buses. The maintenance area was expanded from five to seven hoists and a new brake lathe facility was constructed, allowing for buses to undergo brake repairs without having to be transferred to Central. The driver parking lot would also be expanded, using land once occupied by a group of rail sidings for the nearby Magellan Aerospace (former Orenda Engines) facility to the west.
Malton would open for weekend operations between October 22, 2007 and January 25, 2010 to provide additional capacity due to the Central Parkway Garage expansion project. During this period, Malton also operated additional routes that were transferred from Central.
An additional wash bay was constructed in 2019, along with general improvements to the layout of the facility. With these improvements, Malton can accommodate approximately 125 buses.
