The route primarily serves Rathburn Road, providing east/west service across the city of Mississauga. It provides service to the Creditview, City Centre and Rathburn neighborhoods of Mississauga.

Timeline
- September 6, 2005 - Sunday service introduced, with the Sunday only route 21 being eliminated.
- October 10, 2005 - Weekday rush hour frequency is increased to 17-21 minutes.
- October 22, 2007 - Route designated as accessible, with low floor buses used at all times.
- 'March 24, 2008 - Weekday rush hour frequency is increased.
- September 3, 2013 - Route extended west from City Centre Transit Terminal along Rathburn Road to Erindale GO Station. One bus added to route with similar frequencies maintained.
- January 4, 2021 - Route revised to terminate at the new Kipling Bus Terminal, no longer serving Islington Subway Station. Routing in Etobicoke is changed to use Highway 427 and Dundas Street, no longer using Burnhamthorpe Road east of Highway 427.
