MiWay 1401-1407
MiWay 1401-1407 are New Flyer XD40 buses built in 2014.
On April 16, 2014, Mississauga City Council approved the purchase of 7 40' BRT low floor diesel buses from New Flyer for a total cost of $3,952,706.10. Given that the order size was small and the fact that previous orders had been awarded to New Flyer Industries, it was decided to sole-source the order.
Delivery began in October 2014, and the buses began entering service at the beginning of December 2014. This order was delivered in the MiExpress blue livery with lettering. Six of the buses were used for service expansion, while one bus was used as a replacement for 0305 after a fire, using a $35,725 insurance payout to partially offset the cost.[1]
The interior features 38 4ONE Aries passenger seats with Holdsworth Fabrics CAA321 "Cream/blue sixties" fabric. Individual reading lights and power outlets are located throughout the interior. A folding wheelchair ramp is located at the front door of the bus. Rear doors are passenger operated utilizing Vapor's CLASS sensor system. All Windows are flush mounted and of the tip-in transom design manufactured by Arow Global. Heating, ventilation, and cooling are provided by a roof-mounted Thermo King unit.
Beginning in 2022, all buses in the MiWay fleet had unprotected forward facing seats blocked off or removed. These changes reduced the seating capacity from 38 to 37 seats.
Units in this order are in the process of being repainted in the orange MiWay livery in 2024-2025, as the previous blue MiExpress livery and branding was phased out.
