General

The route primarily serves Tomken Road between Dundas Street East and Steeles Avenue East, providing north-south service across the city of Mississauga and into south Brampton. It provides service to the Applewood and Rathburn neighbourhoods of Mississauga.

Timeline
- September 6, 2005 - Route 51A 'Tomken-Meyerside' is introduced, replacing existing route 52 Tomken-Meyerside service.
- December 12, 2011 - Route designated as accessible, with low floor buses used at all times.
- March 24, 2014 - Route 51A is eliminated and service along the north-end loop is replaced by the new route 52 Shawson Loop.
- November 17, 2014 - With the opening of the Mississauga Transitway, the route now connects with Tomken Transitway Station at on-street stops along Tomken Road.
- February 27, 2017 - Saturday frequency increased to 32 minutes from 60 minutes.
- October 28, 2024 - Route is extended north via Tomken Road and Steeles Avenue East to Bramalea GO Station.
